Global Mental Health & Suicide First Aid

CHAMPS has been an accredited MHFA England instructor organisation for many years and are delighted to be adding Suicide First Aid training to our global portfolio. We believe both of these first aid skillsets play a vital role in any holistic wellbeing strategy.

Creating a culture that invests in developing and enhancing Mental Wealth is our focus and we also recognise that, no matter how well you do this, there will be people in every organisation who are experiencing poor or declining wellbeing, whether linked to something in the workplace or life outside work. Accredited Mental Health First Aiders or Champions will be able to support those people and Suicide First Aiders will be able add a greater level of support when it comes to identifying and proactively supporting anyone who is having thoughts of suicide. Together they not only demonstrate an organisations’ seriousness about and commitment to support mental health but provide a high level of reassurance that your people’s wellbeing is fully supported.

Global Mental Health First Aid

From an organisation’s standpoint, having sufficient MHFA-trained people across the organisation is most powerful as part of a wider holistic wellbeing strategy. Which training you choose will depend on what else you are doing and the roles people are in; the information that follows will help you decide.
Regardless, the role of someone with MHFA training is to provide a listening ear, reassurance and support to someone who is experiencing a consistent dip in their mental wellbeing. We all have bad days when we are just out of sorts but when it continues for more than a few days in a row it can start to impact our daily lives. Having a ‘go-to’ person who can support and guide them towards relevant help if needed can make a real difference and help make life at work easier, not to mention helping to prevent a decline leading to mental ill-health. You don’t need any specific skills to become one – simply an open mind and a genuine care and interest in listening to others.

MHFA England have currently approved some of their programmes for online delivery and we are delighted to be able to offer those to all of our clients. As you might expect, however, we will be adding a dash of CHAMPS magic and supplementing these programmes with additional support in the form of live Zoomie coaching sessions, to ensure people integrate the learning and are supported as they take on this vital role at an incredibly challenging time.

The programmes we are able to offer are:

MHFA Adult Refresher programme: 4 hours, for people who have been trained between 2 and 4 years ago and who want to refresh their knowledge and skills. We are running refresher programmes over the summer at a reduced rate of £99.00 + VAT per person (usually £125+VAT) so email us for more details.

Online MHFA Adult 2-day First Aider programme: This new course is based on the content from the Adult 2-Day course, has the same learning outcomes and on completion learners will receive a Mental Health First Aid certificate. Online Mental Health First Aid is made up of both individual learning activities and a series of live sessions. Individual learning will be based on a combination of videos, workbook activities and reading, which can be done at the learners own pace in advance of each live session.

Suicide First Aid (SFA)

Suicide can be a confronting subject and sadly most of us have been touched by it in some way during the course of our lives.  It is a community issue, which requires a community response.  Anyone can learn the suicide prevention awareness knowledge and skills – the more people who do, the safer our communities and workplaces will be.

These courses are designed to teach the theory and practise of suicide intervention skills that can be applied in any professional or personal setting. Only the most experienced suicide prevention trainers are accredited to deliver this unique learning experience.
